Raster

Line-by-line area scan

Raster engraving fills an area the way an old printer fills a page: the head sweeps back and forth, firing line by line, and the image builds up from horizontal scanlines.

Raster time scales with area and line density (LPI), not path length — a big fill is slow no matter how simple the shape. Photos, logos, and fills are raster jobs; outlines are vector jobs.
