Dithering converts a grayscale photo into a pattern of same-power dots whose density reads as tone — the reliable way to put photographs on wood and slate.

Algorithms matter: Jarvis and Stucki flatter wood grain; ordered patterns can moiré. Always test the same photo with two algorithms before a paid job.
